Within the program of the VIII Congress the book exhibition, presentations of recent publications on “Judaica in Russia”, Reception for young scholars, the excursion to the judaic collection of Russian State Library, the performance of the documentary film «Red Zion» were organized.
Book Exhibition During all days of the VIII Congress the book exhibition took place. It was organized by the Congress Organizing Committee in cooperation with Gishrey Tarbut Association. The exhibition was opened on July 24–27 from 9.00 till 18.00.

Catalogues of publishing houses such as Brill, K.G. Saur Verlag, Max Niemeyer Verlag, Thomson Gale, IDC Publishers were presented to the participants of the Congress. The catalogues were made specially for the Congress and reflected Congress’ subjects.
The publishers were also invited to present information about their most relevant editions in the Congress Book (pdf file)
Presentations of Recent Publications
All the congress participants were kindly invited to the book-launch Judaica in Russian. The book-launch took place on July 26 at 17.15 in Evening Cosmos Hall.
The book-launch includes:
– Presentation of new books in the field of Jewish Studies in Russian by Gishrey Tarbut Association and Lechaim Publishing House.
– Presentation of recent publications on East European Jewish Studies by the International Center for Russian & East European Jewish Studies.
Reception for Young Scholars
The World Union of Jewish Studies in cooperation with the Russian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem arranged a Reception for Young Scholars on Tuesday July 25 at the Center for Oriental Literature of Russian State Library. The purpose of the meeting was to encourage young promising scholars to present their works at the international conferences and to form professional relations with European scholars.
Judaic Collection of Russian State Library
The excursions to the Center for Oriental Literature of Russian State Library were offered for the Congress participants on July 24 and July 27.
The excursion included the information about the history of the Center for Oriental Literature of Russian State Library, Center’s Collections and the history of the Center’s building which it occupies nowadays in the Mokhovaya Street in the center of Moscow.
The Center for Oriental Literature of Russian State Library holds a brilliant collection of printed materials in Hebrew and Yiddish (an additional collection of the Academic Library). The catalogue of this collection was shown to the guests. The most famous volumes of the private Baron Gunzburg’s collection (7,225 volumes) were shown to the guests.
There was an excursion to the department of illustrated materials of RSL located in the main building. The guests had an opportunity to see a part of Jewish postcard collection and meet the keeper of postcard fund Anna Larina.
On July 24 the meeting with Olga Solomina, the Keeper of the Manuscript Collection of the Russian State Library was arranged. The Manuscript Collection includes Jewish Manuscripts. There was a meeting with the Alexandr Polishuk Editor-in Chief of “Oriental Collection” magazine.
The name of the guide was Mariya Zavorokhina.
Performance of the documentary film «Red Zion»
The Premiere performance of the documentary film «Red Zion.» was shown to the Congress’ participants on July 24.
The film is dedicated to the forgotten page in the history of the Russian Jewry: the grandiose project of creation of the Jewish agricultural autonomy in the Crimea in the 1920s.
Director: Eugeny Tsymbal, the two-times winner of awards of the Russian National Cinema ("Nika") and of the British Academy of Film and Television.

The Congress Travel Agent offered wide variety of tour for Congress participants, including a post-Congress four-day tour to St. Petersburg, City Sighting Tours by a participant’s choice as well as Day Tours for Accompanying Person.
Special 4 hours tour “Jewish Moscow” was available.
Members of the European Association for Jewish Studies and all other scholars in the various fields of Jewish Studies are invited to participate in the VIIIth EAJS Congress. Papers in all areas of Jewish Studies will be considered, even if not directly related to the Congress theme. Scholars are welcome to attend the Congress whether or not they intend to present a paper.
